TBMF Newsletter
September/October 2003
My job description says I should write a monthly newsletter and I do it faithfully. It is just that some months are longer than others. For instance, this past month has been about 6 weeks long. That is a fairly long month but I bet others will be even longer. I haven't noticed any flood of messages asking when the next newsletter was coming though so I guess we are used to long months here in Thailand .
Volunteer & Tour Coordinator
We want to make sure that everyone realizes that Alex Rodgers, our Volunteer & Tour Coordinator is alive and well and on the job. Feel free to ask him to help set up visits and tours as needed. Alex has come on to replace David & Jen Burdette. Between terror threats and wars the number of tours and more casual visits has dropped off. Volunteers though seem to be continuing at a steady pace.
Travel Tip
If you like your passport picture, you probably need the trip.
Colossal Colon
The Browns and Burnettes said I couldn't pick on Alabama anymore. But I have digested some fresh news from my own home state, Ohio . In what could be the start of a new movement in education, my sister tells me that the colossal colon is the fall sensation. Evidently it is a model of a colon large enough to crawl through, has red carpet and is complete with tumors, fibroids and other delights. It is accompanied by an artificial uh….. rear that can be explored with some kind of scope. Yes, Ohio is a nice state to be from. This is the same state where Marcia's home city, Cleveland , became famous for having a river catch on fire.
Whatever happened to… .
We meet a lot of people within or related to TBMF. They come and go and it is hard to keep track of everyone. I try to pass on information as I receive it, but I've not made a real effort to seek it out. I may try to do that more in the future though, and report on people that have left TBMF for varying periods of time. Any former TBMF missionaries or volunteers that receive this and feel inspired to do so, please let me know where you're at and what you're doing. I'll try to include it a future newsletter.
With this in mind, though they've not been gone long, some might be wondering what ever happened to Jonas & Maria Thorangen . They recently wrote and said…..
“ I have got a new e-mail address in Salem church were I am working now: jonas@salemkyrkan.se . I started to work here in Salemkyrkan , Stockholm , a month ago. At the same time I do some work for the BUS mission, visiting supporting churches etc. Maria is busy studying social work – right now a lot of different introduction courses in psychology, sociology etc. Anton & Adrian goes to school in 6 th and 5 th grade in a local public school close to our home. We miss Chiang Mai and friends now when it starts to become cold (just a few degrees above zero in the mornings). But we like pretty good here too!!!”
Word of Wisdom
I know God won't give me more than I can handle. I just wish He didn't trust me so much.
Products, Projects, Etc.
We get quite a few visitors through the TBMF office and we try to give some explanation of the overall work of TBMF. That is quite a challenge as it is rather far flung. To help in this effort, we'd like to collect as many brochures as we can from the people and projects that might have made such things. We would then make something like a catalog of brochures to show people. Also, we'd like to make a catalog of the various crafts and products that various projects, programs, and groups have to sell. So if you have a brochure, or pictures of things you sell or even samples we could display that would be great and we'll do what we can to give you some publicity.
Caution
Never be too open minded. Your brains could fall out.
